Triple J is proud to announce the recent hiring of Jose Mafnas, Jr. as the company’s new Corporate Counsel, replacing Jim Stump who returned to his home state Michigan last month after 8 years in the position.
As Corporate Counsel, Mafnas will provide valuable counseling in planning and decision making and handle all legal responsibilities for the Triple J group of companies. He will play a key role on Triple J’s executive team, providing legal protection and services both to individual employees and the group, from legal research, insight on contracts, property laws, to government regulations and more.
With a robust legal portfolio, Mafnas brings with him valuable knowledge and experience. He was most recently CNMI Assistant Attorney General assigned to the Civil Litigation Division, where he represented the CNMI Government and the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation in various civil matters involving due process rights, administrative law, property rights, contract rights and other matters. Prior to his role as assistant AG, Mafnas worked for a private law firm on Saipan where his legal work included real estate transactions, appellate work, civil litigation, probate, and general legal assistance. Jose's legal experience also includes research work and internships with the Guam Supreme Court, Professor Rose Cuison-Villazor at the UC Davis School of Law, Sacramento County District Attorney's Office, and the US District Courts on Guam and Saipan.
Mafnas has a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Chaminade University of Honolulu and is a graduate of the University of California, Davis School of Law. He is currently licensed to practice law in the CNMI, Guam and California.
